General
- Photon tunnels are open until Wednesday afternoon due to the flooding on the weekend.
- The down time should be used to do important fixes/upgrades
- XTD9 can stay open all week depending on the decision of the PCT
- Photon commissioning successfully brought beam to the end of both the SPB and FXE beam lines
XTDs
- Stability problem of SR imager is still being worked on by A. Parenti (CAS)
- A new version of Karabo with many fixes is currently being tested and will be deployed once the test results appear satisfactory
- Test of the PBLM motors still need to be done in XTD9. This requires an update of the motion loop that should be done today or tomorrow
- There is also the need of an update of the vacuum loop. This should also be done during the down time
FXE
- Problem still exist with vacuum controls. The problem appears to be understood and seems to be on the PLC side. FXE uses ion pumps with an analog output that does not interface with the alarm level settings.J. Tolkiehn is working on it
- Work progresses on motor testing
- FXE requests firmware for loop 7. But this work interferes with the priority on the vacuum.
SPB
- Loop 1 is now fully available with all modules
- Loop 2 is available with only the first module. The other modules are away for modification
- Due to the flooding the connectors cannot be attached until cables have dried and have been re-tested
PLC
- AE will work again on AGIPD this week. This limits resources for the instruments
KARABO
- Problem with X2 timer interface is solved. But PCT apparently still uses the DOOCS interface.
- Waiting for the go ahead to release the next KARABO version
- Work progresses in parallel to intergrate DAQ into KARABO. This will be the next version after the bug-fix version
ITDM
- The announced update of the network switches will be done on Tuesday morning and will result in a 5 minute network interrupt

General
- Photon tunnels will be searched starting at 1500 today and then closed. Machine will go back into regular operation this afternoon
- XTD9 stays open until further notice
- Flooding damaged several connectors in SPB Optics and FXE Instrument.
- Jovo will replace connectors that show optical damage and test all cables that were in the water. A list is being compiled by Adriano. Meeting held for this purpose today at 1330 in XTOB.
XTDs
- Work continues on stability problem of SR imager
- 2 updates were done on motion loop since a bug was still found for the MC2 lib after the first update
- 1 update was done for vacuum loop but another one needs to be done since there is still an issue with the NAGIOS system
- Test with the PBLM is still outstanding and will be done today
- The systems should be in a fully functional state again this afternoon!
FXE
- Vacuum gate valves can be controlled now after some work by J. Tolkiehn. Ion pumps are not controlled yet
- Next update of firmware should resolve the problem with ion pumps
- Cables for loops 4&5 were in the water and hence work on these components has to wait
SPB
- Full E2E test was done for the PSLIT.
- Further tests will have to wait for fixes to cables
PLC
- AE works on AGIPD today and will go back to instruments tomorrow
- An update to the EPS needs to be done at some point in the near future to implement the end switches of the screens
- When cables are fixed and tested, all modules in the respective loop have to be pulled out as they are daisy-chained
KARABO
- New system implemented for deploying new versions that allows quick switch and possible roll-back
- Script system implemented that performs schema evolution for scenes. Hence, old scenes will be adapted to changes automatically. This is important for the many scenes developed by the PCT.
- Deployment of next Karabo version with bug fixes to be done before machine restart this afternoon

XTDs:
- DESY requests the KMONO to be commissioned since the K Values of the undulators appear not to be as accurately calibrated as originally advertised. Management decided to put KMONO at the top of the priority list for this reason. W. Freund should work together with Mahadi and Nerea on getting the two goniometer motors (ELMO controller) working. When software is ready a ZZ access should be requested
- Latency of FEL imager is ~ 5s which is a problem for tuning and scans. M. Messerschmitt is looking into this. A. Silenzi was not aware of the problem up to now.
Radiation Safety Tests:
- Radidation safety tests are scheduled for 26 - 28 June. Proposed order is SPB Optics, FXE instrument, SPB instrument. Detailed plans to be discussed in a dedicate meeting on Thursday and plans to be presented in the Friday TC meeting
- Vacuum interlocks will not be implemented before the rad safety tests and vacuum will be operated completely in manual mode
- Open topic: Can the instruments use the beam after the rad safety test are done and how is the procedure?
- SRP needs to make precise statements about where people can/should be during the rad safety tests
FXE:
- Ready for radiation safety tests.
SPB:
- Tested motors in loop3
- Tested valves in loops 2&3
Electronics:
- Concentrating on getting KMONO going in the next days

General:
- Beam was brought to all SASE1 hutches on Friday. Beam was available to both instruments splitting it with M3 until Sunday morning. Afterwards SASE tuning was done and the beam should be back in the hutches some time today. Beam operation will continue this week with very low intensity. Split beam operation to both instruments.
- Rules as follows:
- Only one bunch and very low intensity (< 100uJ)
- Mechanical manipulation on vacuum parts only when shutter and all-metal gate valve are closed
- Shutter and gate valve closed when instrument people are not in attendance
- CAS appears to be in a 2 day workshop from 9 - 5. This is a problem as some urgent work is needed.
XTDs
- No access for KMONO commissioning this week
- All preparations that can be done for KMONO operation should be done however
- M. Messerschmitt prepares interface for the FEL imager to DOOCS so that KMONO can be used for tuning
SPB
- A list with essential components has been prepared
- It appears that some of the previously brought up loops contain only vacuum components. This should be fixed
- Loops 5 and 12 are needed most urgently now.
- 5 additional servers are needed from CAS

General
- Accelerator was down all weekend due to cold compressors that were damaged in conjunction with the power outage on Friday
- Since 0700 all interlocks are broken and tunnels are open.
- Tunnels except XTD9 stay open until Thurday.
- XTD9 can remain open longer
Availability of Networks
- Network mainentenance that was requested last Friday for Tuesday has to happen today together with the rest of the facility. It was scheduled for 0700 - 0900 and is already almost done
- Following the network maintenance, N. Jardon will bring down the motion loop for KMONO integration. This only affects the tunnels and instruments can work during this time
- After the work by N. Jardon, IT needs to replace kernels on server machines. This will result in KARABO being down until early afternoon
- Afterwards CAS needs to bring back KARABO
- All measures will be announced on this log book
Instruments
- Implementation of vacuum interlock should be implemented this week.
- SPB requires several adjacent loops to be included. Some of them are not up or complete. Maybe a simplified version should be installed first
- SPB requests loop 12 from AE. However this will take until mid July as it contains new motors (SMARAGD) that have not been tested so far
AE
- Work is currently ongoing on preparing to connect instrument interlocks to the DESY MPS system
- Work is also required to fix problems for the laser group that are most likely due to faulty wiring or a broken terminal
IT
- The dual power supply for switches saved a lot of work for IT after the power cut on Friday
- Unfortunately, the PLC CPUs in SASE1 are not on dual power. This should be upgraded as it is now also planned for SASE2/3.
- Dual power should also be put for the uTCA systems

General
- Interlock was set in the injector last Friday
- All shifts were cancelled for the weekend
- Startup today and interlocks set in XTD10
- It is still the aim to have photons by Wednesday (info from XFEL runn coor at 10:30)
- XTD9 remains open until Friday afternoon
- Tests of the emergency off buttons by TS (Thorsten Schön/TS) need to be performed in the instrument hutches. This is currently scheduled for Wednesday and should be done this week but requires careful coordination in order not to break equipment and disrupt commissioning
XTDs
- Progress on KMONO was unfortunately not reported as W. Freund was involved in tunnel search during the meeting. A. Koch shall ask W. Freund to put an update in the log book
- A lot of work was done on XTD10 installations last week, e. g. cooling water connections, gas attenuator installation
- Unfortunately, there is still a vacuum leak on top of the XSDU2 dump
- Work shall continue during the next break week in August and during individual service day if the opportunity is given
SPB
- Loops 5 & 12 are needed for the vacuum interlock. Hence cross-loop communication is needed. This requires additional testing
- Loop 5 is deployed but misses 2 modules that are being modified
- Loop 12 is not deployed and also requires that a few modules be modified
- The goal is to get the interlock up during this week
FXE
- The vacuum interlook will be deployed once the inter-loop communicationn has been tested in FXE
- JJ worked all of last week to
- Fix a leak in a bellow
- Exchange one pump controller
- Rewire motors to conform to XFEL standards
- Install diamond screens in the imagers
- LPD was installed
- There is still confusion about the CRL alignment: Are individual lenses misaligned or the whole stack? This information is needed to obtain the next security level clearance from D3
AE
- AE will not attend the next meeting on Wednesday since there is a parallel event with MPS on the details of the interlock connections, in particular how to deal with the fast valves in the instrument hutches
CAS/ITDM
- ITDM is currently working with highest priority on DAQ for LPD. Once this is integrated, DAQ for the tunnels will follow
- Work on LPD DAQ is done in a separate KARABO "Topic" in order not to disrupt other work
- There are ocnfusing statements of whether DAQ can deal with more than one topic per SASE in the long run...
Important topics for this week
- Perform emergency off tests
- Get LPD DAQ going
- Integrate vacuum interlocks
- Make KMONO available for SASE tuning

XTDs
- Mechanical operation of KMONO is prepared. Work is now ongoing on optimizing the scenes in KARABO
- Data from the SR imager that is needed for scanning the undulator gaps needs to be available in DOOCS. This is prepared.
- Once the machine can provide beam, one hour for KMONO first commissioning has already been agreed
SPB
- Test of the Emergency Power Off should take place this afternoon. PLCs will be shut down and hence parameters have to be put badk
- N. Jardon will put as much information as she can into the firmware do reduce the work of putting back the parameters
- However, in FXE it was found that the Emergency Off buttons only act on the interlock and not on the electrical systems. The situation in SPB is probably similar
- Work is ongoing on technical commissioning but there are still key components physically missing (e.g. CSS and Sample Environment)
- Vacuum interlock is not yet implemented as it is still waiting for a number of components in loops 12 and 5
FXE
- JJ XRay worked last week and now the vacuum has to be re-established. Pump down should start soon but there was still one leak.
- Vacuum interlock definition is ready and it will be implemented by AE today
- LPD was installed. Currently 2 out of 4 super modules are installed. The other two should come early next week
DAQ
- Cabling and preparations are ongoing
- Tests should start early next week
AE
- Currently working on changes in loop 12 for SPB
CAS
- Currently working on bug fixes. Some of these bugs are probably responsible for the system not updating vacuum info for 30 minutes
- Deployment should happen this or next week
- There appears to be some confusion/communication issue as to what version of KARABO is installed where.
- It needs to be ensured that the startup of the next photon commissioning period goes smoothly

General
SPB
- SMARAGD motors are still not working even though one of them worked once. Mahadi/AE is focussing on this problem. It should be solved asap
-
Focus should be on loops 11 and 13. Loop 8 has lower priority at the moment. Loop 11 is urgently needed for the laser
-
A vacuum event occured last night. Currently some parts of the instrument vacuum are at 10-3 mbar.
Tunnels
- There is an issue with disk quotas for storing camera images. This is due to the fact that the DAQ system is not implemented for the tunnel components and an interim solution is being used.
- The focus of the DAQ activities is on AGIPD and LPD
DAQ Tests
- Tests with LPD achieved recording 10000 trains. Performance is still limited when many images (>300) are being stored per train.
- Currently data is not yet stored on gpfs but recorded on disks locally

General:
- No break this week on Wednesday. (Wednesday breaks for XTD10 should start next week)
- Possibility of ZZ access to XTDs on Tuesday from 0700 - 1500. Harald organises the access for vacuum and
diagnostics. No ZZ without previous experience
- Expect XTD9 to close next week.
XTDs:
- SR imager crashed several times on the weekend. D. Görries spent a lot of time investigating and found that
when the configuration of the camera is set to mono-8 it runs stably. This indicates that there is a network
bandwidth issue
- D. Görries also had to restart the KARABO server for the MCP. One motor was working but the other one had
hardware problem and requires an access to the tunnel
- Tests for ELMO motor on PBLMs this week by Mahadi and A. Silenzi. N. Gerassimova is on holidays but agreed to
the test
- A. Parenti would like to deploy SW with added debugging functionality for imagers
FXE
- A. Galler and W. Gawelda are not available this week
- D. Görries reports that there are still problems with controlling the vacuum, I. e. gauges, pumps, valves,
fast valve. Some are related to cabling problems that are currently being fixed
- A firmware upgrade is requested for the commissioning crate. Will be discussed in detail with AE
SPB
- Work by AE on AGIPD for this week was called off as detector consortium wants to work on the hardware
- AE will concentrate on commissioning loops 1&2 for the optics hutch
- Firmware for loops 1&2 needs to be first regenerated
- All cabling problems should be solved by tonight
- All crates can then be pushed in
- All cables should be done except for 4 or 5 in the instrument hutch
KARABO
- The bug that results in devices not updating in the GUI server still persists
- Users are requested to inform A. Silenzi as soon as they discover this behaviour
Plan for the next days
- Start with SPB optics hutch
- Update firmware of FXE commissioning crate
- Test ELmo motor in XTD9 |

Dear Tobias,
Just to clarify that the last information that we got from SPB was the message below. From this information and the technical evaluation that we did the issue is not strong enough to classify Karabo 2.1.18 as "Currently it is not operational. An operational control system is needed soon". This statement is too strong and does not contain technical fundamental.
Anyway, we already mentioned in the meeting that since Friday we have been working to solve the problem and we already have alternatives. We will publish a patch (Karabo 2.1.18.x) today or tomorrow.
Finally, I talked offline with Adrian and we agreed about some topics. Especially to review the "mandatory" word in the release process.

Instruments
- SPB:
- When PLC loops are restarted, still many device parameters are not properly recovered. This generates a lot of work for the team. Recently an entire day was lost.
- The procedure now foresees a notice to the relevant group before each loop update. In particular, CAS will be asked for the last version of the parameters export to be re-implemented. The relative script was also updated and some bugs were fixed.
- Loop 4 (maybe also 3) - MKB system - needs to be updated. This will be done as soon as the last eplan export is available.
- XTD9 loop needs to be updated with proper encoder names. CAS takes care of the missing names.
- AGIPD Interlock system (loop 5) shows some issues concerning valves. It is not clear whether this is due to real problems with the interlock definitions or just to the fact that the system is not yet in vacuum. Chember will be pumped today and then the final test will be done.
- FXE:
- Preparation for the users run ongoing. PP laser treatment test ongoing.

- Delay control is available through KARABO but requires ca 2 days testing: ongoing.
Electronics
- Currently the work that is still needed for SASE3 is being evaluated
- Planning for the next shut down is going on
CAS
- Working on DOOCS/KARABO integration together with DESY. Ongoing. General frame being built. Then priority on the FEL imager needed for first lasing.
- A. Silenzi and S. Hauff worked on the AGIPD procedures: Cooling down procedure successfully tested.
- Work continues on reading and writing data for the GreatEyes detector: The idea is now to test the parallel operation of LPD, Gotthard and Greateyes detector.
ITDM
- The folders for the next user run are being set up next week. GPFS is now fixed.
- SPB requested 18 new cameras. This effort needs to be carefully coordinated. CAS and ITDM are working on that.

General
- No user operation.
- During the week end the accelerator was not able to deliver reliable and stable beam for the user operation.
- The M2 mirror bender stopped working on Saturday morning and had to be replaced. The mirror and blender were replaced as a whole durig the week end. Normally it would have taker weeks but a "spare" system was already set up for SASE2 and could be used on a short notice. Pumping of the M2 section is ongoing and leak test be performed today.
- The non working M2 does not show apparent problems so far, and the reason why was not working is not clear.
- Some sections of the LINAC were warmed up due to some maintenance required for the cold compressors.
- LINAC is being cooled down and ready for operation today afternoon.
- The technical support groups were not informed about the problems until saturday afternoon. The communication channels in these cases have to be improved.
Instruments
- SPB and FXE:
- The goal is to be able to strat the secondo users run on Thursday (Day FXE, Night SPB).
Tunnels
- XTD2,9 Ready to take beam in the afternoon (if no leak in M2 is discovered).
ITDM
- A small bug was found in the DAQ that affects only slow devices with certain train ids
- It is proposed to fix this during the next break. Decide on Wednesday

General
- Preparation for the user's run starting tomorrow (until 7:00 Tuesday morning)
Instruments
- FXE:
- On Monday night the DAQ seemed to be slow. This problem was caused by a misconfiguration in the DAQ which could be solved by ITDM once they were informed. In general both the Configuration understanding by the users and the communication with ITDM has to improve.
- The Gotthard detector could not be used. The Greateyes detector is being used now and works properly.
- PP laser is now synchronized but not commissioned yet. This is going on now (crucial point is the pulse width measure). It is not yet clear whether the PP laser will be used in the next users run.
- SPB
- AGIPD was moved 5 m downstream for the next experiments. Vacuum is OK. Alignment checked with the ALAS, will be checked with beam probably today evening.
- A change in the DAQ configuration has to be (is being) done today (CAS/ITDM)
ITDM
- Upgrade switches today at 9:00 will be checked if there were problems right after this meeting.
