Tobias Haas | General | Information | Status and plans after SASE1 Readiness Meeting | Tunnel Status (T. Haas):
- Tunnels XTD2/4/10 were interlocked yesterday afternoon
- Beam is already going through the T2 and T4 beam lines to T4D
- XTD9 remains open until approximately 15 May
Vacuum (J. Eidam, R. Villanueva):
- The interlock in the gas section was tested successfully in XTD9. The interlock does currently not include the gas injection. This still needs setting up and testing
- Systematic testing of ion pumps and interlocks is ongoing in XTD9 but needs to continue next week
- The system generally works reliably
- However, there was an incident this week in which the gas sections in XTD2 and XTD9 went completely off. The reason is still not understood
Mirrors and PBLMs (H. Sinn):
- All three mirrors in the SASE1 beam line in XTD2/9 are installed and pumped
- N. Gerassimova installed PMTs in XTD2 yesterday and set up the cameras of the PBLMs
- The problem with injected properties disappearing was identified on the Karabo side and fixed. The fix still needs to be deployed
- The motors of the PBLMs are still not functioning completely.
- The read out rate of the cameras is ok (of the order of 10Hz or better)
Imagers (A. Koch):
- Imagers in XTD2 and XTD9 are ready for beam
- Work continues on improvements
- Read out rate is ok, but the latency is sometimes high and needs to be unterstood
XGM (J. Grünert):
- The gas on the XGM in XTD2 was changed at the request of K. Tiedtke from Ar to Ne
- Tests were done with the remote control of the gas system. This is now fully functional
- The HV/Vacuum interlock is not operational yet
- Otherwise the XGM is ready accept beam. Next week software tests should be performed with the readout
FXE (A. Galler):
- Currently commissioning loop 1. There is still a problem reading out encoders. It appears that this is a firmware issue. TF is working on this.
SPB (B Weinhausen):
- Currently commissioning the SPB tunnel components. The encoders have the same problem as the one reported by FXE
- I broken terminal required changing
PLC (T. Freyermuth):
- CRL in XTD2 was integrated into the PLC motion loop yesterday during the access.
- A first version of the EPS logic was agreed upon and implemented. Details to be discussed again with DESY next week
Karabo (A. Silenzi):
- ITDM provided an additional control server
- A redeployment of Karabo is necessary and will be done later today (users will need to re-connect afterwards)
- The problems previously observed with the GUI server have not re-occured.
Plans for next week:
- Consolidate vacuum in XTD2 so that V0 can be reliably opened when first beam should be transported
- Finish work in XTD2, in particular PBLMs and instrument components
- Finish systematic tests of ion pumps in XTD2
- Deploy fix for Renishaw encoders in firmware
Other topics:
- We continue the 09:30 meetings next week until further notice

SPB (B. Weinhausen)
- All motors in the SPB tunnel loop have been commissioned except for one TECHNOSOFT motor where the updated driver was not yet available
- Comment by P. Gessler:
- The updated MC2 lib was deployed yesterday evening. Testing should be possible now
- The second camera of the screen broke. Concern exists over possible overvoltage in the power that comes directly from the PLC
- All encoders are working
- The vacuum in the Optics hutch is closed
- Info by A. Violante:
- All cabling in D02/D03 is done
- There are a few damaged connectors that prevent pushing in the modules. This should be fixed on Monday
- Pins are swapped in one connector. Will be fixed locally
- Comment by P. Gessler:
- This week AE was busy with AGIPD and tunnels
- Next week resources should be available to support start of commissioning loop 1
FXE (A. Galler)
- E2E tests are progressing
- A recent update of the Beckhoff firmware generated new problems with encoders
- Info from T. Korsch:
- The vacuum in the hutch is closed and has reached 5e-7 mb
- There is a minor leak in one of the bellows
- Compressed air is working to operate the gate valves
- Vacuum gauges can be read out remotely
- Attention should be paid to being able to read out detectors, e. g. diodes
Laser (D. Kane/M. Lederer)
- Slides were provided in INDICO with a detailed account of the status. Only Key points are summarised here:
- Hutch infrastructure is working in general and temperature stability is ok but laser group is lacking access to controlling the parameters, humidity is oscillating and smoke detectors are not connected
- Pre-assembly of PP laser is 75% done
- Beam delivery to instruments is on the list now
- Synchronisation with optical system might not be available before October
- Control are generally working and software has improved a lot but some stages cannot be controlled and Karabo appears still to have some resource leaks
Detectors (M. Kuster)
- LPD is in E2E tests and AGIPD is still being integrated into the XFEL environment
- This week it was possible to run the DAQ chain on LPD for the first time
- All tests on LPD including data taking in the X-Ray chamber in HERA-S should be done by end June
- Situation with AGIPD is more difficult as basic integration is still not complete
Discussion
- Follow up on progress with instruments, laser and detectors will continue in S1R meeting from now on
- The S1R dispatch meeting takes place on Mondays 09:00 in BKR and on Wednesday 09:30 in XHQ

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Status and plans after SASE1 Readiness Meeting | General (T. Haas)
- Due to problems with interlock cabling the approval date with the TÜV on 1 June has been cancelled
- The MB, SASE1 Instruments, AE, CAS and PSPO met yesterday and agreed that in view of the schedule risks with technical commissioning the focus of the next weeks should be enabling both FXE and SPB/SFX to accept beam for doing radiation safety measurements no later then end of June.
- SPB/SFX were asked to identify the minimum functionality for this goal. The respective components will be marked in the component priority list
FXE (A. Galler)
- So far work has concentrated on motors
- This week PSLITs and BIU2 successfully underwent E2E tests
- JJ was back this week to fix some problems on patch panels
- Johan spectrometer is back in the hutch
SPB (B. Weinhausen)
- Work continued on the tunnel loops.
- The power supply problem with photonics cameras has been solved by AE (Additional 12V terminals installed)
- Triggers for the cameras are working
- Valve between optics hutch and tunnel vacuum was opened for the first time
- There is still the unsolved problem with the TECHNOSOFT motor.
- Work will now move to the optics hutch.
Laser (T. Jezynski)
- Alarm systems are (smoke, gas etc) are now connected
- Big problems with AC systems. The effort with FM to stabilise the humidity now results in temperature swings of up to 2 degrees. The same problem also appears in the instrument laser hutches
- AC problems lead to large instabilities of the laser
- Alignment beam is now delivered to both instrument laser hutches
- No new information was received on the topic of optical synchronisation
Detector (M. Kuster)
- Management decided that LPD will be moved to FXE in June, in weeks 23/24 to allow further testing of AGIPD in HERA-S
- Interlock test on AGIPD continue
- CAS is working on integrating the DAQ of AGIPD. When this is done an update of Karabo is needed. This will not happen this week and hence not before S. Hauf is on holidays
Electronics (P. Gessler)
- There is still some work for the tunnels:
- For integration of MCP tests were done in the lab yesterday. One of the two axes is working, the other one not yet
- Tests for PBLMs could not be done as there was no common window between on N. Gerassimova and M. Umar. Tests could be done by M. Umar if N. Gerassimova agrees. She is on holidays for two days next week
- The interface of the vacuum loop and the EPS loop to the DESY MPS requires additional work for XTD9 in the next days
- Work also continues on AGIPD for one more day
- There are some absences due to sickness and holidays that also slow down the work
Karabo (A. Silenzi/B. Brockhauser)
- There will be a swap of the GUI server today to allow debugging the issue that the device states are sometimes not properly shown. People will need to re-connect
- Tests of TECHNOSOFT motor were successful. (Does not include encoder needed for SPB motor)
- There is a fundamental problem with the Photonics camera used in the SR imager. It has a rolling shutter that does not allow to get well-timed, triggered images. The same issue might be persent for the HIREX camera
- The KARABO/DOOCS driver has been re-established. This should allow to set time delays directly from Karabo again
Discussion/Next Steps
- SPB should start with technical commissioning of OPTICS hutch
- Instruments identify components needed for beam in the hutch for radiation safety measurements
- AE finishes pending tunnel work and then focus on SPB/SFX and FXE
- Displatch meetings on Monday and Wednesday at 09:30 in XHQ/MCR (*not at DESY*)

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Status and plans after SASE1 Readiness Meeting | General
- Due to the water incident in the hall commissioning activities are somewhat delayed
- Next week 2 technicians from Actemium/Jovo arrive and shall fix damaged connectors, disassemble a subset of connectors and test all cables
- Detailed planning for the repair and testing will be made once Jovo is on site. But the work should go in this order: SPB Optics, FXE Instrument, SPB Instrument
- A few cables are also affected in the tunnels but the Vacuum group can shorten the cables and reconfection them
- Update of the motion loop in the tunnels should happen early on Tuesday
- SRP should present the detailed plans for the radiation safety tests asap so a respective road map can be worked out
- It was noted that the newly installed laser chicanes appear not to be radiation tight
XTDs
- The bug that leads to the GUI not updating is annoying and has led to a loss of at least 2 h of beam time
- One arm of the MCP got stuck since the end switch was not handled properly. For the moment this arm cannot be moved safely. The problem is understood but requires an update of the motion loop.
- The update on Tuesday also contains code for HIREX, updates for PBLMs and imagers
FXE
- Gate valves can be operated
- Problems persist with ion pumps and pressure gauges
- For radiation safety tests also the Fast Valve and the interlocks need to be working. This is not yet the case
- JJ XRay is coming again next week. It is not currently clear how much they can do in view of the cable problems
SPB
- The list of cables affected by the water were given to A. Violante
- Testing activities should progress in parallel with cable testing if possible. This requires the respective module to remain in the crates. It needs to be clarified whether this is possible
Laser
- The humidity in the hutch is still too high (>75%)
- Humidity regulation is not ok and oscillates by +- 5%
- The optical glue was found to be very sensitive to humidity and needs to be exchanged
- A few connectors were damaged in the flood. They will be exchanged by AE
Detectors
- AGIPD is currently open to fix problems with readout of temperature sensors and other controls
- Next week the detector will be closed again and then PLC tests will be carried out
- The modifications of the electronics took 1.5 weeks. Only 2 days were estimated
- The LPD detector is currently already controlled with KARABO
- DAQ is working and calibration runs with the internal source are being carried out
- Next week the detector will be moved into the X-Ray chamber and calibrations with X-Rays will be done
- 2-3 weeks from now LPD could move to FXE
- Readiness of FXE needs to be checked as KARABO versions are currently not compatible
Electronics
- FXE Loop 7 firmware is ready
Software
- Working on a more systematic approach to upgrades and support. In this scheme a candidate version can be fully set up and switch from old and new and back can be done quickly
- Working on a definitive list of supported devices in order to organise proper support

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Status and plans after SASE1 Readiness Meeting |
General
- A low intensity beam is being put into the SASE1 intrument hutches in this order: SPB Optics, FXE Instrument, SPB Instrument
- No special precautions outside the hutches are needed due to the low intensity.
- The work will most likely not finish today. If necessary ti will continue next week Monday
- From now on, access to the SPB Optics, SPB Instrument and FXE Instrument hutches requires these three safety trainings
- General Safety (AllgSi)
- XFEL Safety (SiXfel)
- General Radiation Safety (StraSchu)
- Check with SRP if you are not sure about yout status
XTDs
- W. Freund and the AE colleagues successfully tested their firmware on the the KMONO in HERA-s. This will be integrated in the motion loop and a controlled access will be requested on Tuesday to try this out in XTD2
FXE, SPB:
- Working in the hall to bring the beam into the hutches
Laser:
- 90% of the hardware is installed on the tables
- Humidity in the laser hutch still varies wildly, even after the humidity in XHEXP1 is below 60%
- Humidity variations translate into a pointing instability of the seed laser which cannot go into the amplifier
- There is a discrepancy between KARABO names and motor terminal names that needs to be cleaned up
Detectors
- Interlock tests on AGIPD were successfull
- The train builder is integrated
- LPD is about to finish the tests in the X-ray chamber
- Afterward the KARABO version needs to be updated
- Transport ot FXE is scheduled for week 27
Electronics:
- Getting SPB and FXE ready for today's beam exercise required quite some short term effort
- Mahadi had to get the cameras ready
- Bruno had to set up the trigger timing
- Implementation of the interlock conditions were delayed for the exercise of bringing the beam in. This should happen immediately afterwards together with the connection to the MPS system which is currently not present
- The remaining problems with vacuum in SPB and FXE were solved (Some had to do with hw problems and wrongly wired controllers)
- Work continues on bringing up more SPB loops. Most recently loop 4 was brought up and the firmware for loop 7 is prepared for tests
- Implementation of the interlock conditions were delayed for the exercise of bringing the beam in. This should happen immediately afterwards
- The work on KMONO delays some of the instrument work
Software:
- CAS is currently working with high priority together with ITDM to get the DAQ system and archiving up
- There was a dedicated SQUAD for this purpose
- The functionality has already been tested successfully on the LPD detector.
- The interface needs work to become usable
- Tests of full scalabiity are still outstanding
- The system needs to be deployed in the real environment
- It is estimated that the remaining work should take ca 3 - 4 weeks

- Topics to be worked on next:
- Vacuum interlock integration
- LPD integration
- uTCA digitizer (was already working in Karabo 1.4.7)
- Great Eyes Detector has a rate limitation that was not there before
- Longer term topics
SPB
- Loops 12 and 5 are prepared and uploaded but need to be commissioned now
- Firware for loop 13 is needed next
- Many motors seem to be getting 24V, but should be ruuning with 48V. What is wrong? This needs to be checked in the EPLAN and CRDs
- Loops appear to be missing components
Detectors
- LPD goes to FXE on 5 July. Integration work in the hutch starts immediately after
- AGIPD then goes into the X-Ray test stand in HERA-S
- Note that the DAQ infrastructure can only support one detector at full rate at a time.
- In principle this should not be an issue at 30 bunches but it requires the veto system to work which needs testing
Electronics
- Work this week concentrated on preparing everying for deploying the instrument vacuum interlocks next week
- The problem with wrong names in the PP laser was identified as a wiring issue in one crate
- Work also concentrates on timing and train builder to support detector integration from next week

Frederike Wittmaack | General | Information | Status and plans after SASE 1/3 Readiness Meeting | General (T. Tschentscher/G. Wellenreuther)
- Further tuning of the machine might require some time which was initially dedicated to photon/experiment commissioning.
- Since Harald Sinn will be on vacation: If you need any kind of access please address T. Tschentscher or M. Dommach. TT will organize coordination of groups requiring access to the tunnels vs. requirements of the machine vs. the demand of the instruments for commissioning.
- Lasing with 30 bunches was achieved this week. Consequently the radiation protection measurements have to be undertaken as soon as possible.
FXE (C. Bressler)
- yesterday no beam at all
- attenuators are being tested
- all hardware installed
SPB (R. Bean/A. Mancuso)
- Implementation of loops required for focal characterization — mainly loops 12 and 13. Also loops required for vacuum interlock.
- Still more loops required to be brought up—working with AE down a clear priority list.
- Clear plan for AGIPD to come to SPB/SFX instrument. Requires DAQ and more.
- CAS reacted quickly to undesirable behavior (freezing) in Karabo, which is now largely solved.
Tunnel Installations SASE3 (J. Eidam, L. Samoylova, N. Kujala)
- SASE3: No access – no progress
- SASE2: work as planned is ongoing
- SASE1: There are still issues with the fast valve.
- During this and last week maintenance days, the Newton PICO motors of FXE monochromator were successfully tested in the tunnel together with Nicola. All four motors for crystal roll and pitch can be moved in vacuum. However a slow motion, necessary for fine tuning, seems still not available. Further motor parameters adjustment is needed, which will be done in the lab with test environment.
- To fulfill the technical commissioning and make the FXE mono available for photon commissioning and operation, the firmware for Alio linear stage should be created. The work is on-going. May be available for tests before mid-August, but the schedule and priorities should be clarified.
- Status of HIREX spectrometer in XTD9 tunnel: The HIREX saw FEL beam for the first time yesterday. All motors were commissioned with Karabo software and ready for commissioning with FEL beam. It is in discussion with SPB and FXE to have parasitic beam for commissioning in the coming week.
Laser (Daniel Kane)
- The pump-probe laser group reported that, with the stabilization of the AC system, we are now continuing with production of the laser system. We are still missing the functionality some components of our control system, but we have enough at the moment that it is not an impediment to us building the laser for now, however it is something that needs keeping an eye on.
Detectors (J. Sztuk-Dambietz)
- LPD: K. Wrona reported that they could observe on all channels but they are still working on storing the data. Loss of device settings induced by glitches in Karabo cost a lot of time to overcome.
- AGIPD: ten out of 16 modules have been successfully tested but there is still a lot of work to do; still testing procedures and electronics, etc. before AGIPD is moving in to SPB in August
AE (P. Gessler)
- Focus is on loop 12 this week, continued to get remaining parts for loop 12 running
- The firmware based interlock for FXE was implemented, certain conditions are disabled but otherwise it is running.
- Plans for shut down week of SASE3 in tunnel in August are currently being made
CAS (S. Brockhauser)
- As reported previously, a release candidate for 2.1.13 has been prepared last Friday
- During the last week-end CAS could systematically reproduce the GUI delay problem SPB was reporting
- In the beginning of the week CAS could identify the source of the GUI delay issue (which was in an old code of the GUI client and got triggered only under special circumstances) and fix it.
- Solution was patched into the new 2.1.13 release resulting in a new release candidate which CAS finished testing now.
- Note that the new release will also fix most of the annoying issues (especially the configuration persistence problems) experienced recently during LDP integration to FXE
- As soon as the new release becomes finalized its deployment in the different production systems will be done under CAS coordination after consulting with all relevant WPs involved.
- The newly introduced quick release cycles with the attached deployment process (as shown on the meeting last week) will help provide access to improved releases while guaranteeing that no surprises and irreversible regressions apply.
- On the ScanTool thread opened by Christian: CAS has started to design a ScanTool around the SRD from SPB which is now being crosschecked against requirements coming from others, too, like FXE, before starting its implementation.
- Thomas, Gerd, and Harald suggested to disseminate its design, so others can also give feedback. Hence, we agreed, that Sandor Brockhauser provide this information and organize a meeting next week.

29 Sep 2017, 10:43 |
Gerd Wellenreuther | General | Information | Status and plans after Readiness Meeting | SPB (A. Mancuso):
- Users are in good shape
- Beam operation with ca. 600 microJ, but beam seems to be ring-shaped after M2?
- Preparing for first pump&probe experiments in November.
- Start of the focussing mirror controls should start after the user run
FXE ():
- Was not present at the beginning of the meeting, so nothing was reported.
Tunnels (M. Dommach):
- SASE1:
- SASE3:
- Preparing for the works in XTD10 during the Oct. shutdown are ongoing.
- PES: Will just be connected to vacuum & pumped, not functional.
Laser (M. Lederer)
- Sustained small damage during set-up
- Not much time left until user run requires PP-laser
- Issue regarding motors not coming back to their position reliably still persists / is not solved. ==> To be tackled by Gabriele (CAS) + Nerea / Nicola / Janna (AE)
Detectors (P. Lang)
- Detectors are in operation
- Works in Oct. shutdown mostly indepenent from other groups
- LPD & Gotthard run together, but Gotthard has not yet detected X-rays?
Electronics (P. Gessler)
- Preparing for Oct. shutdown
- Train-builder should be tested in the Winter shutdown, because the contract only runs until March.
ITDM (K. Wrona)
- There are some issues with run-control, being investigated.
Software (S. Brockhauser):
- Daily meetings with FXE & SPB.
- C. Youngman is working on the Master Equipment List for SASE3. The basic assumption is to copy any configurations/parameters from SASE1 to SASE3.
- Focussing now more on the SASE1-issues (e.g. Karabo-DOOCS-Interface ==> will mirror devices from Karabo into DOOCS.)
Priorities & Schedule (T. Tschentscher, G. Wellenreuther):
- Performance of SASE1 has to be improved, in particular the performance of the accelerator. This has higher priority than continuing building up SASE3 or SASE2.
- For example, the measurement of gain curves requires the MCP, consequently its completion has highest priority.
- The control room also needs fast & direct access to more devices than just the XGM to properly tune lasing, consequently the Karabo-DOOCS interface has highest priority.
- For the overall planning of the next ca. 5 weeks all groups are expected to report back to T. Tschentscher & PSPO until Wednesday next week. PSPO will produce a Gantt-chart of all activities. Template for the feedback will be sent around still today.
- PSPO is tracking ALL major activities associated in all SASEs in the presentation shown. Missing items to be reported to G. Wellenreuther. Will be revisited on a ca. monthly timescale
- Planning for the next shutdown in December should commence in early November (= after the upcoming shutdown), to allow for proper planning and preparations.
- Despite the priority on SASE1, activities in SASE3 and SASE2 should progress. We still would like to attempt to do first lasing in SASE3 before the November user run!

Monica Aresté | General | Information | Status and plans after Readiness Meeting | General:
Reminder to all the groups to provide the shutdown task list today afternoon to PSPO. Find template attached.
SPB:
- In general was a succesful weekend. On Sunday there were some problems with control and DAQ already reported to CAS.
- To check if there were additional problems on Monday and report to CAS if necessary.
- To provide the shutdown task list to PSPO.
FXE :
- Was not present, so nothing was reported.
Tunnels:
- Nothing particular.
- List with the shutdown tasks to be provided to PSPO.
Laser:
- Motors were not working, this issue was partially solved in a couple of motors. Detected that the problem was a configuration issue in the PLC. WP-78 will test the solution in other motors of the same kind.
- Laser was running during thre weekend, data will be reviewed today to analyse laser behaviour.
Detectors:
- To investigate a problem with AGIPD, this will require the support from CAS.
Electronics
- Preparing for Oct. shutdown.
ITDM
- DAQ problems on Monday and Tuesday due to detector configuration, still working to find out the causes of the problem.
Software
- Working in the problems reported during the weekend.

06 Oct 2017, 11:15 |
Gerd Wellenreuther | General | Information | Status and plans after Readiness Meeting | SPB (B. Weinhausen):
- Users took good data
- Problems occured with the DAQ / control system
- Working on diamond @ beamstop
- Preparation for several updates / activities regarding AGIPD
FXE (A. Galler):
- User took good data, analysis is ongoing
- Will rework cable routing/connections
- Chiller was moved to the rackroom, redo the connections etc.
Tunnels (M. Dommach, H. Sinn, J. Gruenert)
- SASE3:
- 1st section is not recovered yet, DESY Vacuum has to replace the last valve here, works have not started yet
- 2nd section with K-Mono, which was vented, is now pumped again.
- Diff. pumping in gas section has been tested, upcoming are interlock tests
- Gas attenuator still needs a lot of cabling, cooling water and compressed air
- Leak test starts
- MCP has to be connected next week
- Leak @ absorber: has to be reweld by Trinos, or a blind flange has to put right after the absorber ==> should not hinder the 1st lasing attempt.
- Absorber was moved ==> has to be realigned by MEA
- A. Koch is ready to commission several imagers as soon as the motion loop is up&running
- Next Monday AE, WP74, Vacuum etc. will finalize which components will be implemented in the motion loop during the October shutdown
- MCP, FEL-Imager: Crates are there, AE still has to understand and define the priorities of their work
- Repair of MCP: Access to XTD required, WP74 to clarify with SRP.
- No access to the tunnels with visitor cards! (Access to tunnels requires rebreather training, knowledge about procedures, warnings, dosimetry etc.)
- Hirex was calibrated @ 9keV, is ready to measure the bandwidth, was determined to be 20eV FWHM
Laser (M. Lederer)
- NOPA-Alignment progressing
- Some setbacks due to shutdown activities by MKK, which affected the humidity stability ==> tables bend
- Laser synchronization has to be implemented by WP18, is questionable, the responsible expert is going on vacation next Friday.
- Motors seem to move reliably now
- No process yet to let the users easily change the laser burst pattern via software. Currently, BKR is being informed about our needs, and they "drive" the laser through timing signals from BKR.
- Laser group will operate in a shift pattern:
- 8-16h morning shift
- 15-23h late shift
Detectors (M. Kuster)
- AGIPD:
- Decided not to modify the vacuum
- Working on internal calibration
- Working on increase of the bias voltage to improve the performance
- Electronics are being replaced partly
- LPD:
- Upgraded the chiller
- A leak occured due to the increased pressure, since the chiller was put into the rack room ==> pressure reducer is used now
- Will exchange faulty super-modules
- Working on the internal calibration
- Planning next beamtime & shift schedule as laser group has setup
- There still exists a risk to collide AGIPD-modules, meeting with the AGIPD-consortium to agree on changes for the next detectors
- Problem with additional frames which had to be taken during data acquisition: pattern upgrade / firmware upgrade required, will not come in October.
Electronics (P. Gessler)
- Responsibles
- SASE1: Bernard Baranasic
- SASE3: Jan Tolkiehn
- Instruments SASE1: Tobias Freyermuth
- Lots of updates are required, could all be done in short succession ==> can the beamline be put in an insensitive state, to allow quick series of updates?
- Documentation by WP74 + Vacuum is not consistent ==> AE will provide an Excel-sheet to be used, which should give a consistent picture of all terminals, connections etc.
ITDM (K. Wrona)
- Both online & offline-filesystems have to be updated. Monday: Online-FS will be down, offline-FS will be worked on continuously, should not be down, but at reduced performance, since update will be server by server.
- How should ITDM communicate this to the user? Suggestion: Setup an email-list for users to subscribe to, so those individuals who actually work on the data get the updates, and not every user.
- Capacity of the offline FS has to be increased
- DAQ-Upgrade: still running Karabo 2.1.12 on detectors, which requires lots of restarts. Will upgrade to .13 first.
- Still there is no proper commissioning of the Gotthard. Testing would be appreciated to improve reliability ==> time required from Detector and Instrument
Software (S. Brockhauser):
- Karabo 2.1.18 to be released today, but not immediately to be installed. To be deployed after PLC upgrades.
- Karabo + DOOCS: A meeting took place with T. Wilksen (responsible for DOOCS). ==> interface for slow data / digits exists, but not for pipelined data / cameras / images
- Highest priority of the DOOCS-Team are the SASE3 undulators, which is not in line with the XFEL priorities (improving the stability / reliability of the SASE1 operation)
- C. Youngman to work on the master equipment list for SASE3
- A. Galler: Is the current situation really bearable for the instruments, can we actually call this upcoming beamtime "user time"? ==> S.Brockhauser: Lots of problems have been solved, new will arise...
- A. Galler: Will we be able to do a simple blade scan through a laser beam and get a plot?
==> S. Brockhauser: We are working on this. You can have plots showing motor positions, intensity, and then correlate this.
- H. Sinn: Basically, we still to not have a working scan tool, which is a big drawback. This is one of the very basic functionality every user will expect!
Priorities & Schedule (G. Wellenreuther, H.Sinn):
- Operation board should decide about updated schedule next week
- Users & instruments request time to with beam to set up before user time!
- OCD-contacts for TS were provided (again?)
- In general, interface to OCD should be harmonized for all groups (e.g. always have a fixed cellphone number)
- Activities for the shutdown have been gathered by PSPO, and are being provided to the support groups for crosschecking.
- No major collisions/ bottlenecks appeared apart from the high workload / demand for support by AE and CAS.
- AE and CAS will crosscheck and provide feedback to PSPO regarding resources & priorities if required.

- We will review the progress again in Mid-January!
SPB (M. Sikorski):
- AGIPD was tested.
- Roll back to crystallography configuration is ongoing.
FXE: No one attended.
Vacuum (M. Dommach):
- 1st mirror M1 in SASE3 installed, chamber closed, pumped down & leak tested

- Further commissioning of the PP-laser was started.
- Upgraded Karabo and PLC firmwares. Works are on schedule.
- Measurements on the dependence of humidity are ongoing.
- DESY is working on the timing system, laser synchronization will be down until the 21.1.18.
- PP-laser pattern selection with machine timing:DESY is now pushing for the originally planned implementation. DESY will have to do some software development in this context.
Detectors (J. )
- Tested the AGIPD @ SPB, but 1 board was not working. Detector consortium could not provide a replacement board, so only half of the detector was tested before SPB/SFX had to close the detector vessel again.
- LPD was tested with train builder, but only tests using 2 memory cells could be conducted (2 images per train), so train builder was not tested with all memory cells.
- More tests with full load (i.e up to 510 images per train) still have to be performed.
- Test with DSSC will take place in HERA South in CW 51.
ITDM (K. Wrona)
- Monday til Wednesday there will be no DAQ due to extension of the Infini-band bandwidth, upgrades, firmware updates, recabling etc.
- DAQ up again on Thursday
Software (S. Brockhauser)
- CAS-People are currently working only in SASE3. In the future, they can either work on SASE3 or SASE2, but not both!
- Slides with Project-plan provided by Hugo Santos (see Indico)
- Release of Karabo 2.2.0 on the 18.12. (in the meantime shifted to the 20.12.)
- Testing by ITDM and consecutive deployment in tunnels and at the instruments takes until 22nd of January
- Karabo 2.2.1 to be expected mid of January
- Further decisions will be taken mid of January
