Frederik Wolff-Fabris | General | Information | Notes XO Integration Meeting 15.02.2021 |
General Announcement:
- It had been a cooling water issue with SA1 and SA3 PPLs on Saturday. Other groups are encouraged to check their components for eventual damage. Cooling water is back
again.
- Change on definition of a critical work: everything that leads to operation is from now on considered a critical work (official communication will be send by e-mail).
- Tomasz J. says interlock tests in SA1 tripped the laser interlock due to the Seeder connection to the interlock.
Andreas G. says there are care been taken to prevent this in future. More discussion will follow.
CTRL:
- Updates were done on the time servers and data loggers.
- GUI servers will be done this week as there was no access to GITLab. Current suggestion is next Wednesday morning before 08:00AM.
Each topic will take a few minutes only. XPD is fine with the proposed day/time.
DA:
- Nothing to report.
EEE:
- Issue during weekend: signals to the absorber. EEE and PRC (Maurizio V.) will coordinate when it is the best time for applying the final fix.
EEE needs to mask it for proceeding with the work.
VAC:
- VAC OCD was involved in the absorber EPS issue.
- Today around lunchtime the XTD6 and XTD9 will be closed.
XPD:
- EPS issues: any component driven to the beam was not protected by many bunches operation. The EPS was thinking the PNACT was closing but in reality, it was opened.
PRC/EEE/VAC/XPD OCDs solved by manually telling the system it is closed.
- Wrong bunch number sent to XGM: SA3 toroid was moved to a different position and the old name was not valid anymore.
Info from this toroid was not received and the consequence XGM was receiving wrong bunch numbers. This makes impossible for the XGM to calculate correctly the number of
bunches.
Doocs servers were not updated (these programs would need to be informed of new naming).
- Andreas K. says that XTD6 is clean. In XTD9 an intervention by EEE will take place. Bruno F. says that it is a simple task and we are accessing tunnels right now.
- Operation E-log 2021 is missing and must be created.
DET:
- Offline calibration work is ongoing until tomorrow morning.
ITDM:
- GPFS offline storage maintenance to be done today.
- ITDM was notified by Desy that is necessary to reboot logins on Maxwell nodes (between 11:00-12:00).
XRO:
- Nothing to add to what was discussed on the EPS.
LAS:
- Affected by water cooling incident. SA1 came up without issues but in SA3 there is problem as AMPHOS did not restart.
- Trigger issue on last week are not the issue anymore. This was not repeated (but SA1 still on local mode).
UNSYS:
- BBA and photon BBA last week: new values to be implemented and minimum gaps will be updated accordingly.
- Frank Brinker tested the ambient field corrections. A ZZ is taking place this morning to fix SA2/cell12.
Few other coils have different polarities and will be fixed today or in another ZZ.
SPB:
- Preparing for the first two weeks with beam in March.
FXE:
- Aligned the cameras in FXE mono.
- Crates to be installed in the rack room.
MID:
- Joerg H. raises the question on the FFP2 usage recommendation. Sandra Plett says the document containing guidelines will be prepared (hopefully today);
It is mandatory to use FFP2 masks if you are not alone; it also depends on the room size and at the moment it is 3-5 people in the hutches with mandatory use.
A. Galler says these are the current regulations and maybe this will change in future.
HED:
- Nothing to report.
SCS:
- Nothing to report.
SQS:
- Trying to get a new DAQ and will talk to ITDM. |

General Announcement:
- None.
CTRL:
- CTRL will deploy an update on time server configurations for SA1 and SA3. Bunch time decoders will be down during few minutes.

- Minor OCD calls during the weekend with no severe issues.
EEE:
- EEE works with SPB on configurations of motors (in general with several other instruments).
- Looking into XPD issues.

restart.
PLC continues running in the background. CTRL recommends restarting CPP server as workaround.
XPD:
- XGM in SA3 shows not accurate number of trains per pulse. First pulses of a train were missing. It will be followed up with CTRL and SQS.
- There is an agreement in how to enable the 5keV operation. Instruments shall be aware of ahead planning when changing photon energies (band region of resonances which
requires exchange of gases).
In general SA1 and SA3 instruments are aware.
DET:
- Working on calibration issues.
- Problem from SCS with Karabo device going in unknown mode has been under investigation.
ITDM:
- Comment to DET: it has been understood issue with Maxwell nodes last week - jobs running and certain nodes were in bad state. It was a particularity of the
configuration. This affected the calibration.

done in earlier times when experts are around.
XO will talk with CTRL and ITDM, as well as SQS.
- exfelgateway and Karabo installation: we will move today the installation. Link will redirect to the next location. No changes in how to start Karabo GUIs.

FXE:
- Minor issues with components motors: when pressed step up /step down in the motor, the Karabo interpret that we pressed twice. It is not critical but annoying. Issues
are related to MC2 motors.
CTRL will get in touch with EEE in an offline discussion. Issue has a different nature compared to the HED problems with motors.
- Tests on Monochromator show energy drifts. For long range scans one has to correct manually the calibration. FXE will report to CTRL today or tomorrow.
- Friday beam instability due to horizontal jitter: FXE took some data and will communicate.
MID:
- Number of bunch train issue was also observed.
- Train IDs going to AGIPB are correct and verified.

General Announcement:
-
CTRL:
- Announcement: tomorrow starts Karabo deployment on FXE in SA1 as well as ITDM; Wednesday the MC2 upgrade for the rest of facility (already done in SA2) will take place.
- Device clone fix to be deployed today (e-mail sent to readiness).
- Two versions of ReadtheDocs exit (Old one will be OFF on the July 5th). If someone has an old project at the old version of ReadTheDocs please change to the new
version.
DA:
- Nothing to report.
EEE:
- Reminder that uTCA systems are under maintenance this week (interruptions planned in balcony rooms).
- EEE received report last Monday from SPB with issues on motor cables from Beckhoff controllers. Electrical current could go very high but not enough to trigger the
fuses and consequently overheats and has a fire risk.
EEE is looking implementations to take place this week in crates. Ordered parts shall arrive beginning of this week.
It is a large intervention to introduce 1-2 fuses in the modules/terminals of all crates in tunnels and experimental Hall.
- Steve A. adds that the changes are piece cases, each crate will be touched; if 50% of the crates are changed during this maintenance, one reduces 50% the chances for
fire.
P. Gessler comments that one has to limit the current of the 24V terminals, by introduction the additional fuse. All crates will be touched but it is a linear change.
VAC:
- Investigating the situation with motor terminals. A. Galler says tunnels will start being closed next Monday and will find the exact date for XTD6 and XTD9 closure.
- Shutdown work ongoing but no issues to report.
XPD:
- A. Koch, N. Kujala and W. Freund say there is nothing to report.
DET:
- Nothing to report.
ITDM:
- Reminder on the e-mail of the gateway maintenance proposed to take place on Friday. In case of issues please contact ITDM.
XRO:
- Nothing to report.
LAS:
- Nothing to report.
- Pouneh S. asks when AMPHOS engineer will come this week. Man Jiang (LAS) says that work starts today from 10AM with the amplifier in SA1.
Man J. will inform back Pouneh on a detailed schedule for this week.
UNSYS:
- After a delay in Afterburner project activities with MEA group, the infrastructure problems at the beginning of last week were solved by TS.
The work is currently ongoing for the afterburner project and mechanical elements have been installed.
- Today there will be adjustment of the base plates pedestals; from tomorrow work with concrete filling takes place. Planned tasks for the afterburners will be completed.
- Cell18/SA1 problem: it was not needed to replace the quad mover.
SPB:
- Nothing to report.
FXE:
- Nothing to report.
MID:
- All fine at MID.
HED:
- All fine at HED.
SCS:
- Nothing to report.

In case of questions please contact XO via xo-planning@xfel.eu
CTRL:
- Updates announced on last XO Int. meeting will take place next Monday (unless if a group protests). This means a short downtime on data loggers in tunnels. An e-mail
with a reminder will be sent.
- Upgrade for the bunch pattern statistics devices to take place (also will be offline for few minutes).
- Issues with MC2 motors: the workaround is to shutdown device and click/instantiate device. A fix will be deployed.
DA:
- DA involved and continuing with "Moonshot" coordination meeting.
EEE:
- Nothing to add.
VAC:
- Nothing to report.
XPD:
- Nothing to report.
DET:
- Nothing to report.
ITDM:
- Announcement with respect to Maxwell cluster: ITDM will change partition schemes in the next Summer maintenance.
Three new partitions will be introduced, for calibrations and a special one for reservations for beamtime (UPEX related);
A new feature is that if Maxwell is full of jobs, one can pre-empty it by killing jobs and putting back in the queue.
XRO:
- Yesterday beam going to HED: some problems were found regarding parameter configurations.
XRO reminds SA2 instruments to be careful and check devices positions and parameters are they may be changed in relation to April 1st due to the issue with PLCs during
Easter Sunday.
- Zunaira A. says there were problems with CRLs arms configurations. Some devices had to be restored but worked normally.
LAS:
- All lasers are fine.
- Shutters in SA1 PP-Laser were in maintenance mode - without defined reason.
- SA2 PP-laser is fine.
- SA3 PP-laser has degradation due to the cleaning. XO will address the issue with LAS.
UNSYS:
- All fine.
SPB:
- Running user experiment. Low photon energy yesterday (0.8mJ) and drop intensity over the full 352 bunch train but today it got better.
FXE:
- Nothing to add.
MID:
- All fine.
HED:
- All motors lost positions, e.g. mono, screens being driven (some in and not supposed to be in). CRL1 issue the position was lost at the axis; motors not being homed;
Zuzana K. will summarize main issues and forward to XO.
- Steffen H asks for a summary of encoders and Zunaira A. also asks on the use of interlocks and CRLs/shutter to evaluate if all is fine. Zuzana K. says HED did not work
yet on the CRL2 but will communicate as soon as experience is get.
SCS:
- Question to CTRL on the workaround of MC2 motors. Steffen H. says to shutdown device, check configuration and instantiate it again. An instruction e-mail will be sent
to readiness list.
