Eric Boyd | XHEXP | Information | Radiation Measurements of FXE Monday 07.08 |
The control room thinks that they will be able to very easily provide us the desired parameters for commissioning the FXE EXP Hutch this coming Monday. If that is the case we will be restricting access in SASE 1 in accordance to the attached presentation from 8:00 am until completion of the radiation measurements. A SASE 1 log book entry will be made when restrictions go into effect and are lifted.
We should find out Sunday evening from the control room if they don't think they can provide us with the proper parameters. If this happens I will send out an email informing you that the measurements have been canceled. If you don't receive an email from me Sunday evening, assume that the measurements will be taking place beginning at 8:00 on Monday morning and will be in effect for most of the day.
Sorry for the short notice. |

Adriano Violante | XHEXP | Information | Status after 9.30 dispatch meeting |
Instruments
- SPB:
- When PLC loops are restarted, still many device parameters are not properly recovered. This generates a lot of work for the team. Recently an entire day was lost.
- The procedure now foresees a notice to the relevant group before each loop update. In particular, CAS will be asked for the last version of the parameters export to be re-implemented. The relative script was also updated and some bugs were fixed.
- Loop 4 (maybe also 3) - MKB system - needs to be updated. This will be done as soon as the last eplan export is available.
- XTD9 loop needs to be updated with proper encoder names. CAS takes care of the missing names.
- AGIPD Interlock system (loop 5) shows some issues concerning valves. It is not clear whether this is due to real problems with the interlock definitions or just to the fact that the system is not yet in vacuum. Chember will be pumped today and then the final test will be done.
- FXE:
- Preparation for the users run ongoing. PP laser treatment test ongoing.
Tunnels
- XTD10/SASE3
- XTD9/SASE1
- Si-Mono: work has been done during the week end. The idea is to have it running without tilt stages.
Laser
- Delay control is available through KARABO but requires ca 2 days testing: ongoing.
Electronics
- Currently the work that is still needed for SASE3 is being evaluated
- Planning for the next shut down is going on
CAS
- Working on DOOCS/KARABO integration together with DESY. Ongoing. General frame being built. Then priority on the FEL imager needed for first lasing.
- A. Silenzi and S. Hauff worked on the AGIPD procedures: Cooling down procedure successfully tested.
- Work continues on reading and writing data for the GreatEyes detector: The idea is now to test the parallel operation of LPD, Gotthard and Greateyes detector.
ITDM
- The folders for the next user run are being set up next week. GPFS is now fixed.
- SPB requested 18 new cameras. This effort needs to be carefully coordinated. CAS and ITDM are working on that.

Adriano Violante | XHEXP | Information | Status report after dispatch meeting 09.30 |
SPB
- Last night the beam disappeared between 4 and 8.
- AGIPD scene showed many problems, both concerning Karabo and Data preview. Detector is not operable. To solve the issue a joint effort of all the groups involved, as well as the physical presence of experts during the shift is requested.
- CSS has to be moved out of the beam. As of now there are problems with cabling that need to be solved
- Smaract stages are misbehaving. More support from AE (Mahadi) is requested
- Status of the coordinated motion test was asked. Should be ongoing but the experts were not there.
FXE:
- Testing fast intensity monitors and LPD
- DAQ worked very well
- Scan tool must me tested
- Correlation between LPD and fast intensity monitor is problematic due to train id problems. There is a new device to be deloyed on the XGM. Today or tomorrow will be seen whether this solves the issues.
- BKR reported that the beam tripping was due to some FXE device close to the M3, but FXE is not aware of that. Info will be asked to Harald today during the PSO meeting.
Advanced Electronics (P. Gessler):
- MCP HV problem in SASE3 - the power supply failed. The fixing shoud be done according to the priorities, Photon run coordinator decides.
ITDM (K. Wrona):
- FXE slow data DAQ issues: these will be solved splitting the LPD slow data from the rest. small update of the software needed.
- Simultaneous acquisition from LPD and cameras is now available and working well.
Detectors (J. Sztuk-Dambietz, P. Lang):
- AGIPD will operate with the old firmware due to problems with the new one
- No calibration data available as of today
- AGIPD is in a safe state

Adriano Violante | XHEXP | Information | Emergency off test in FXE - Update and next steps |
Dear all,
I was just informed by Ulf Brueggmann that the emergency power off test was successfully performed in FXE.
The reality is now reflecting the planned logic, exeption being the power plugs in the experiment hutch. They do not go off. This is due to some missing cables. These will be installed in the next weeks and a new test will be planned for next shutdown.
The tests will continue tomorrow in SPB/SFX.

Torsten Schoen | XHEXP | Information | SPB emergency power off tests |
Dear all,
the emergency power off test has been successfully performed in SPB.
Nobody can instantly cut the power to non hazardous racks (see racklist.xlsx managed by Ulf Brueggmann) by pushing the emergency off button anymore. The outlets in the experiment hutch do not go off. This is due to some missing cables. These will be installed in the next weeks and a new test will be planned for next shutdown.
Furthermore three racks for D.02 (SPB optics) and two racks for D.13 (SPB laser) cannot be powered off anymore by pushing the emergency off in D.09. The missing two emergency power off switching devices will be mounted in UV-XHEXP1-01-13-AV in the next shutdown. Until then the power to those five racks (D03-UH1 - D03-UH3, D13-UH1, D13-UH2) cannot be cut by emergency off buttons in D.02 or D.13. |

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Mandate for the Extension of the Vacuum Controls Commissioning Task Force |
The Vacuum Controls Commissioning Task Force initially helped to get the vacuum components extending from the gate valve at 2678 m to the gate valve at 2730 m in XTD2. This comprised the valves and pumps and the associated vacuum interlock logic. The necessary components were all installed and locally tested. As the next step the PLC firmware for the control of these devices was generated including the interlock logic. Finally the system was connected to version 1.47 of Karabo, which was able to monitor and control all components. A live demonstration is currently still outstanding.
As the next step the vacuum section considered should be extended upstream to include all components up to the gate valve at 2630m. In addition to vacuum components this should include the installed photon beam line components. The goal is to include all these systems into one continuous vacuum, commission all systems locally, generate the PLC firmware, implement the required vacuum interlocks, monitor the state of the system remotely via the PLC command line interface and eventually connect to Karabo and monitor and control the system via Karabo remotely using the consolidated version 2.0. While this commissioning effort is going on, development should occur on three days during the week (Mo-Wed) while the system should be operated continuously during the remaining time, thus also testing long-term stability. This should be achieved by the end of 2016. |
