Tobias Haas | General | Information | Schedule for PLC and Karabo 3 April after 09:30 Meeting |
Tunnels closed today and tomorrow
- AE updates Vacuum and motion loop in the morning
- V. Bondar, J. Eidam and H. Sinn test vacuum in the afternoon (emphasis on understanding interlock conditions)
- A. Koch tests XTD2 imagers in the afternoon
See also https://in.xfel.eu/redmine/projects/sase1/agile_board
Problems solved on Friday last week:
- Arms 2 & 4 of SRA are now moving. Apparently spindles had mechanical resistance that resulted in error condition. After moving a few times, this appears to be gone
- One of the problematic ion pumps had the serial line disabled. However, other lines

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Schedule after 09:30 Meeting |
Tunnel closed today. Might re-open around 14:00
Note that that we re-convene briefly at 17:00 today in MCR (Mock-up Control Room)
Vacuum Loop:
Status:
- Large number of ion pumps not responding properly (2 in XTD2, 63 in XTD9). There is the suspicion that the parameters on some ion pump controllers might be set incorrectly, such as baud rate or the bus address. The generated error code indicates a bad address.
- Test in the lab requires Ion pump controller and PCL. No setup currently readily available. Check in the tunnel required. Could take place between 1200 and 1300 in XTD2 with a ZZ. (Update: B. Racky thinks she will be done around 1400 and would prefer access after this time)
- Preparations needed to include XGM
EPS Loop:
Status:
- Temperature sensors return null value. Suspected firmware bug has been fixed and EPS loop updated by TF
- EPS to MPS interface requires testing. Should be done tomorrow
Motion Loop:
Status:
- Fixes have been applied to the MC2 lib. Tested for TECHNOSOFT driver. Should now work also for PBLMs . Tests do be done starting Wednesday
Imagers
Status:
- Camera driver for SR imager not working
- Camera driver for FEL driver working for imager in XTD2 but not for XTD9
Tasks for today:
- E. Eidam, V. Bondor, , J. Tolkiehn H. Sinn go through all ion pumps in the Silenzi list
- E. Eidam, T. Freyermuth check pump controller settings in the tunnel
- A. Koch and W. Ehsan work on Photonics Camera driver for FEL imager
Tasks for tomorrow:
- M. Planas, T. Maltezopoulos, N. Jardon, J. Eidam test XGM vacuum integration in XTD2 (not XTD9)
- N. Gerasimova, N. Gerasimova and 1 firmware expert test PBLMs in the tunnel
- T. Freyermuth tests EPS -> MPS interface
Other topics
- The two signals from MCP to EPS shall be called MCP-upstream and MCP-downstream

Email by M. Schlösser re alignment
Hi Tobias, hi Markus, Hi Winni,
Tobias, we discussed briefly the schedule for the T9 and T10 beamlines for the next few days, when we met in the tunnel yesterday.
From what i understand it is impossible to finish T10 until April 11th from the alignment and vacuum side. And probably more important, this also holds true for T9. There is at least one major problem with the alignment of the mirror chambers of T9 in XTD2, which will need some additional days to solve.
From my understanding at least the T9 beamline should be closed and aligned before putting SASE1 in operation. While it will of course be possible to send electrons down to the XSDU2 dump, it will not be possible to send photons to the experimental hall with the current state of the beamline.
Since it is not possible to work in XTD10 while the SASE1 electron beamline is in operation, i would propose to also finish this beamline before SASE1 electron startup. Since there is major work to do in XTD10 to finish the beamline, there is no hope to do the remaining work during maintenance days. Finishing the beamline would require a major shutdown of the SASE1 branch later.
Since there will be no alternative to send the beam to (e.g. SASE2) for the next year (?), it does not make sense to stop work in XTD10 now, just to continue later then, without any overall benefit for the machine.
Of course i don't have a complete overview of all the machine schedule, but from my point of view it would make more sense to finish work in the northern branch, at least to align all components and to close the vacuum system, even if that means some more weeks before the SASE1 startup.

Tobias Haas | XTD2 | Information | STATUS UPDATE: XTD2 Differential Pumping Modules running under interlock control |
Post on behalf of Raul Villanueva:
As we just finished the exhaustive testing and final adjustments of local
test and the interlock program for each of the turbopumps at each
Differential Pumping Sections in XTD2 Tunnel, we are happy to announce
that the system has been released and is up and running smoothly and under
control. That means that the isolation gate valves in front of each
turbopump is open and therefore the latter is pumping already the beamline
as expected during the upcoming operation phase of the facility. That also
means that WP74, after having already received the wiring documentation
from the Vacuum Group can proceed with the same protocol to keep the whole
gas section in XTD2 in a consistent fail-safe status.
With this positive news, we wish you to have a nice evening,
Regards,
Raúl, Tobias and Nerea,

Torsten Schoen | XHEXP | Information | SPB emergency power off tests |
Dear all,
the emergency power off test has been successfully performed in SPB.
Nobody can instantly cut the power to non hazardous racks (see racklist.xlsx managed by Ulf Brueggmann) by pushing the emergency off button anymore. The outlets in the experiment hutch do not go off. This is due to some missing cables. These will be installed in the next weeks and a new test will be planned for next shutdown.
Furthermore three racks for D.02 (SPB optics) and two racks for D.13 (SPB laser) cannot be powered off anymore by pushing the emergency off in D.09. The missing two emergency power off switching devices will be mounted in UV-XHEXP1-01-13-AV in the next shutdown. Until then the power to those five racks (D03-UH1 - D03-UH3, D13-UH1, D13-UH2) cannot be cut by emergency off buttons in D.02 or D.13. |

Dennis Goeries | XTD2 | Problem | SASE1 Imager FR |
Dear all,
we are experiencing constantly crashes with the photonic science camera in the SA1 imager FR. We found now out
- If the pixel format is set to Mono16 the camera will most likely crash, go in error.
- Before instantiation the camera may show Mono16. During connection Karabo but gets a fresh update and the field in the scene switches to Mono8.
Please don't apply Mono16 again.
Best wishes, Dennis |
