Wolfgang Freund | XTD2 | Information | K-Mono control |
During the first K-Mono test with Karabo on Friday the first goniometer THETA1 (Elmo controller) moved beyond the CW limit switch and stopped at the CCW switch. So the goniometer was trapped between both switches with a movement range of a few degrees. Movement of encoder and motor were opposite. This behaviour is not understood and under investigation.
Now the goniometer is back within the nominal range and movement of motor and encoder reading is consistent. CCW limit switch at 117.5° / CW limit switch at ~182°. |

Torsten Schoen | XHEXP | Information | SASE3 E.21 and E.22 electrical power distribution |
changes according to the racklist on the electrical power distribution cabinets for rackrooms E.21 and E.22 are done. Power supply should be stable now. Please note that there will be emergency power off tests prior to the final acceptance test of SASE3 electrical installations around mid of May. You will be notified about the exact time and date. |

Torsten Schoen | XHEXP | Information | SPB emergency power off tests |
Dear all,
the emergency power off test has been successfully performed in SPB.
Nobody can instantly cut the power to non hazardous racks (see racklist.xlsx managed by Ulf Brueggmann) by pushing the emergency off button anymore. The outlets in the experiment hutch do not go off. This is due to some missing cables. These will be installed in the next weeks and a new test will be planned for next shutdown.
Furthermore three racks for D.02 (SPB optics) and two racks for D.13 (SPB laser) cannot be powered off anymore by pushing the emergency off in D.09. The missing two emergency power off switching devices will be mounted in UV-XHEXP1-01-13-AV in the next shutdown. Until then the power to those five racks (D03-UH1 - D03-UH3, D13-UH1, D13-UH2) cannot be cut by emergency off buttons in D.02 or D.13. |

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Mandate for the Extension of the Vacuum Controls Commissioning Task Force |
The Vacuum Controls Commissioning Task Force initially helped to get the vacuum components extending from the gate valve at 2678 m to the gate valve at 2730 m in XTD2. This comprised the valves and pumps and the associated vacuum interlock logic. The necessary components were all installed and locally tested. As the next step the PLC firmware for the control of these devices was generated including the interlock logic. Finally the system was connected to version 1.47 of Karabo, which was able to monitor and control all components. A live demonstration is currently still outstanding.
As the next step the vacuum section considered should be extended upstream to include all components up to the gate valve at 2630m. In addition to vacuum components this should include the installed photon beam line components. The goal is to include all these systems into one continuous vacuum, commission all systems locally, generate the PLC firmware, implement the required vacuum interlocks, monitor the state of the system remotely via the PLC command line interface and eventually connect to Karabo and monitor and control the system via Karabo remotely using the consolidated version 2.0. While this commissioning effort is going on, development should occur on three days during the week (Mo-Wed) while the system should be operated continuously during the remaining time, thus also testing long-term stability. This should be achieved by the end of 2016. |

Tobias Haas | XTD2 | Information | STATUS UPDATE: XTD2 Differential Pumping Modules running under interlock control |
Post on behalf of Raul Villanueva:
As we just finished the exhaustive testing and final adjustments of local
test and the interlock program for each of the turbopumps at each
Differential Pumping Sections in XTD2 Tunnel, we are happy to announce
that the system has been released and is up and running smoothly and under
control. That means that the isolation gate valves in front of each
turbopump is open and therefore the latter is pumping already the beamline
as expected during the upcoming operation phase of the facility. That also
means that WP74, after having already received the wiring documentation
from the Vacuum Group can proceed with the same protocol to keep the whole
gas section in XTD2 in a consistent fail-safe status.
With this positive news, we wish you to have a nice evening,
Regards,
Raúl, Tobias and Nerea,

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Karabo Names in Vacuum component list |
Post on behalf of Harald Sinn:
for the non-vacuum part of WP73 we have the following situation:
Last Friday Alessandro and myself had a meeting and agreed to use the names given in the document
(CAS inbox for software requirement documents)
The only change will be in the naming of the power supplies for the hard X-ray mono
(which will be changes to analog input /output)
You can use the names is this document therefore already. However, Alessandro will
create Excel tables out of it, which will be then used in the future for reference.
Also the extension to SASE3/2 will be done in this Excel document.
Best regards
Harald

Post on behalf of Alessandro Silenzi:
please find below the link to the first version of the master component list and the link to the direct download:
Please give your comments directly to me to avoid confusion.
The next steps after collecting your input, will be to implement a test in the Firmware project generation that will test the deviceIds against this list.
Best regards

Tobias Haas | XTD2 | Problem | XGM at XTD2 / issue with in-vacuum-resistor |
Post on behalf of Jan Grünert:
during HV-tests on the installed XGMs, our DESY colleagues from Kai Tiedtkes team have found an issue with one of the electrodes / resistors inside one XGM vacuum chamber at XTD2.
Roughly, we know the following:
1) If not repaired, we would lose at least the capability of monitoring shot-to-shot horizontal beam position at this XGM location. This is a lower-priority info.
2) However, it’s not yet fully tested if other functionalities could be affected. In case the absolute calibrated intensity info is affected, then clearly we would have to repair.
3) Since the cause of the resistor-irregularity is not understood, there is a risk to damage the other (operational) remaining resistors in the other chambers of the same XGM.
It is not yet fully clear
a) what is the cause for the irregular behavior (it concerns a resistor inside vacuum which dramatically changed its resistance, which apparently possibly might happen even during a correct dry-nitrogen venting),
b) the entire consequences for operation with this XGM
c) the effort/details of a potential repair (could include up to removing one of the four chambers off the girder out of the tunnel into a lab, certainly needs re-survey)
d) if another XGM chamber is affected (so far tested 2 of 6).
The DESY colleagues are running various tests with us on the XGMs, also extending to all the other XGMs, to get answers to the above questions in order to allow a decision on “repair/not repair”.
Since this concerns the internals of the high-prio XGM in XTD2, we could ask Kai Tiedtke to give us his brief 10min report and recommendation in the tomorrow SASE1Readiness Meeting. Should we request his presence / will you add him to the agenda ?
Best regards,
Jan

Tobias Haas | General | Information | Software Report |
Post on behalf of S. Brockhauser
Since I am in Grenoble and visiting ESRF, I will not be able to give you the report in person. Instead Alessandro can give you a Summary.
In fact:
- we did collect the full list of the Karabo names for all the equipments involved
- we have started our sprint and we are on track
As next things:
- we are collecting all the required Karabo(!) default parameters
- we plan to finish the sprint as planned and presented last time.
Until now we have not experienced and obstacle.
Best wishes
